The firm consists of Douglas Koger and shared staff to assist in administrative manners. When you hire Douglas Koger he will be the attorney handling your matter. It will not be passed down to a series of lower level partners or associate attorneys. However, over the years Douglas Koger has developed a network of other similarly practicing attorneys and individuals. For appropriate cases, Douglas Koger works with these attorneys and individuals, who may act as co-counsel, paralegals, litigation assistants or outside consultants. In that manner, Douglas Koger can bring together multiple resources to handle your matter like a large firm, without losing the personal attention he provides as a sole practitioner.

Mission Statement

Douglas Koger's mission is to help entrepreneurs and their businesses through the business life cycle and beyond. The legal and financial landscapes for small businesses and entrepreneurs are minefields in shifting sands. Entrepreneurs must navigate those fields frequently, enduring attacks and obstacles from the government, competitors, other businesses and current or former employees. He will guide you through this process acting as your experienced and trusted “General Counsel.” As his clients’ General Counsel, he maintains specific knowledge of his client’s business and personal legal needs and remains readily available to evaluate problems and provide advice and counseling. Through its life cycle, a business will experience many legal and financial issues. Those issues start with choosing the business’ initial financial and ownership structure. They continue through a myriad of issues involving its employees, customers, vendors, government agencies, and protection of intellectual property as the business expands and changes over time. Throughout this business cycle, owners should consider and implement appropriate succession and exit plans. Finally, as part of or following a successful exit, business owners must consider methods to preserve and pass on what they have built.

Advance planning to preserve and pass on what you have built becomes even more critical as we age. Entrepreneurs and others work a lifetime to build savings for themselves, spouses and other loved ones, often sacrificing on the way. Those savings can quickly be lost due to unexpected issues brought on by dementia or Alzheimer's, severe illness or injury requiring long-term care, or disputes among family members. Estate and incapacity planning for the elderly presents a new set of issues different from such planning for the young and healthy.

Douglas Koger provides a common-sense approach to difficult and complex legal and financial issues businesses and their owners encounter through a business’ life cycle and beyond. His approach keeps matters simple without underestimating their often-significant legal and business implications and complexities. He serves his mission by listening to our clients and using his knowledge of small and growing businesses, the problems they face, and the concerns of their owners. To that knowledge, he applies years of experience and training in legal matters involving litigation (trial of business and other disputes), real estate, construction law, employment law, and business transactions to quickly arrive at cost-effective solutions.
